The Personal Origin: A Father's Mission

When my son was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Type 1B (CMT1B), our family faced a daunting neurological reality: a mutation in the myelin protein zero (MPZ) gene that slows peripheral nerve conduction velocity to under 15 m/s, producing a severe 200 ms sensorimotor reflex latency and generalized muscular hypotonia.

Standard clinical orthotics offered only static, rigid plastic corsets and standing frames. While these hold a fragile child artificially upright, they bypass the child's muscular system entirely, causing progressive paraspinal disuse atrophy and sensory learned non-use.

Observing hands-on Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) therapy sessions revealed a transformative alternative: children with hypotonia do not need rigid external scaffolding—they need sub-maximal, precisely timed tactile prompts at distal key points. That insight became Active Kinesthetic Cueing (BalanceImpulse): providing ungrounded micro-second torque bursts (<1.5 Nm) that awaken the child's own postural righting reflexes.
